| "A Parish Church " |
| St. Agnes has
been referred to as a "Mini Cathedral", designed by JL Pearson the architect of Truro Cathedral in 1882,
and built between 1883-5 and costing £28,000.
Pearson's 13th Century Lancet style makes this a building of great beauty and character.
H Douglas Horsfall, the benefactor, was, like his Father before him a High-Churchman, and so wished a suitable
building to be built, the result is a beautifully proportioned red-brick church with a Caen stone interior in stark contrast.
The Tour of the Church starts at the Liturgical West End |

The Nave and High Altar. Looking towards the liturgical east (actually north) The picture shows the beautiful warming glow of the Caen stone, the church having wonderfully vaulted ceilings, a triforium, clerestory and ambulatory of small although dramatic proportions. |
| The Font or Baptistery was also carved by Nathaniel Hitch (sculptor of Truro Cathedral - 1893-5). |

The Font is the place where people are baptised into membership of the Church. Water is poured over the person's head and the words "I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" are spoken. |
